Breathing Technique To Help You Be Present With Your Dog

Today, I wanted to teach you a technique that I use every day to enhance my ability to be present in my body and to be present in the moment. I specifically use this to help enhance my ability to focus on energy healing and communication with the animals that I work with, but I feel it's an amazing technique for you to be able to use to become more present in your body, to step into that state when you are with your dog, when you are about to start training, when your dog really needs you to be present because they're ill, you really want to focus on something that they're going through or just to have a deeper connection with them.

This can be used in so many situations, and I really wanted to share it with you today to help you enhance this ability. I feel that if you do this regularly, ideally once a day, you will really start to notice a change in the connection that you have with your dog, with other people and your surroundings. It's a wonderful tool to add into your life on a daily basis.

I call this technique the water column technique. You want to visualize a column of water that starts at the base of your tailbone, goes all the way up your spinal column and then over the top of your head, and ends between your

eyebrows, which is where your third eye is. On your in-breath, you start at the base of your column and as you breathe in, you visualize the water going up and over to the top between your eyes. When you breathe out, it will go back down to your tailbone. You're going to repeat this 21 times. You breathe in, and the water goes up, and you breathe out, and the water goes down. I don’t want you to just visualize it externally, I want you to try to visualize it as if you are seeing inside the column of water, so you are actually in your spinal column, and you see it moving up, and you see it moving down. Really try to get present in the body and follow it up and down. To assist in the counting, because sometimes when you count one, two, three, you kind of get out of your visualization, what you're going to do is use the joints of your fingers.

You're going to start on your index finger, and you're going to count from 1 to 21, and you'll use your thumb to do the counting. So you start on your index finger go all the way around come back and then finish on your ring finger and that will be 21. You can watch the video if you would like to see what I'm talking about. You don't have to worry about actually counting numbers. Every time you breathe in and breathe out, you just move your finger down to the next joint, and you do this 21 times.

At first as you breathe in and breathe out you might go pretty quickly, but as you practice the technique your breath in and your breath out will slow down, so it will take you longer, and you want to take as much time as possible, but you can simply start with a comfortable breath in and a comfortable breath out and then expand that time as time goes on and as you practice. If you'd like me to take you through the technique, simply watch the video as I go through an entire round with you.

It's very simple, and you'll notice that the more you practice it, the more you'll be able to really visualize being inside that column of water going up and going down, really following it with your vision. Practice this regularly, really give it a try, and you will notice that you will be able to be more present, and you can drop into presence more easily, be more aware of what's going on with your dog, and it really will help deepen your relationship with your dog.
